Many homeowners think they can save money by roofing their own homes. However, there are many dangers associated with do-it-yourself roofing that make it not worth the risk. From falling off the roof to causing serious damage to your home, the risks far outweigh the benefits. In this blog post, we’ll go over some of the dangers of do-it-yourself roofing so you can make an informed decision about whether or not to take on this project yourself.
Falling Off the Roof
During roofing projects that are done by the homeowner themselves, falling off the roof is one of the most common accidents that can happen. This is especially important to keep in mind if you are working on the roof of a building with a second story. It doesn’t matter how cautious you are; it’s easy to lose your balance and end up on the ground. When one falls off a roof, they put themselves at risk for a variety of serious injuries, including broken bones and concussions. People have even been known to die after falling off roofs in certain instances.
Causing Serious Damage to Your Home
A further risk associated with DIY roofing is the potential for serious damage to be caused to your home. It is simple to make errors that lead to water leaks or other structural problems if you are inexperienced in the task at hand and do not know what you are doing. The repairs for these issues can be pricey, and you may even need to replace your entire roof if they are severe enough.
Voiding Your Warranty
If a product is installed by someone who is not a trained professional, the warranty on that product may be voided by the manufacturer of the product. Therefore, if you have an issue with your shingles or any other roofing materials, you might not be able to get any assistance from the manufacturer of those products.
It’s Harder Than It Looks
Even if you’re not worried about falling off the roof, it’s important to remember that roofing is harder than it looks. If you don’t have experience with roofing, there’s a good chance that you’ll make mistakes that will decrease the lifespan of your roof and result in costly repairs down the road.
You Probably Won’t Save Any Money
One of the biggest myths about do-it-yourself roofing is that it will save you money. In reality, most homeowners who try to roof their own homes end up spending more money in the long run due to mistakes that they make along the way. Not to mention, if you do manage to complete the project without making any major mistakes, it’s likely that your roof won’t be covered by a warranty since it wasn’t installed by a professional.
As you can see, there are many dangers associated with do-it-yourself roofing. From falling off the roof to causing serious damage to your home, it’s just not worth the risk. If you need a new roof, be sure to hire a professional who has the experience and expertise necessary to get the job done right.
